The Importance of Coil Priming

Updated: Jan 23, 2019

Prepping, Priming & Replacement

Standard Tank Coil (Atomizer)

What's a Coil?

A coil/atomizer is constructed of metal wire inter weaved with cotton. Liquid soaks into the cotton, the wire heats up around the cotton and vaporizes the liquid when the fire button is pressed.

Don't I Just Fill and Vape?

No. Properly priming and breaking in a NEW coil promotes longevity and performance of the coil and avoids unnecessary damage

to the atomizer and your vaping experience.

Priming the Coil

  • Take apart tank to expose and access the coil

  • Put a drop of e-liquid on the exposed cotton holes on the exterior of the coil

  • Dab some e-liquid into the center of the coil on the cotton areas (Do not over-saturate).

  • Put the tank back together and fill the tank accordingly with the airflow CLOSED. IMPORTANT! (You need to maintain the pressure in the tank to avoid leaks).

For Devices without Watt Control

Take dry hits by taking a pull from the mouthpiece without pressing the fire button. The suction created will force the e-liquid into the coil’s wicking area and it allows the cotton

to become saturated with e-liquid. After the cotton is primed on a new coil, applying too much power to the coil can cause damage to the wire and cotton.

  • Start at 10 watts and take a quick hit without inhaling any of the vapor while pressing the button.

  • Do that around 3 times - quick hit, blow out, quick hit, blow out, quick hit, blow out.

  • Increase the power by increments of 10 watts then repeat the quick hits until you get to around 40 watts (10,20,30,40).

  • Your new coil is properly prepped, primed and ready to go!

Coil Replacement

Remove old coil by taking apart the tank and unscrewing it.

  • Clean tank parts with warm water and dry parts completely.

  • Screw in the new coil and follow prepping and priming steps.
